DAUGHTERS OF ZELOPHEHAD (Numbers 26:33; 27:1-11; 36:1-12)

Misses Zelophehad

Zelophehad had no sons,

But he had five daughters worth a hundred sons–

Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah–.
For they stood their ground in the midst of men,
In an era when women were to be seen and not to be heard,
And asked for their inheritance among their father’s relatives.

Moses took the matter to the Lord,
And the Lord supported them,
He supporrted Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah.
‘Zelophehad’s daughters are right’, He said.
You must certainly give them property as an inheritance among their relatives
And give their father’s inheritance to them.’

So the daughters of Zelophehad possessed their possession among their father’s relatives.
They got what was rightfully theirs because they were bold enough to ask,
And because of their request, a new law was given by the Lord to Moses–
That the inheritance of every man who dies without sons but has daughters should be given to his girls,
And if he had no children, to his closest relative.
